Notre Dame vs Michigan tailgate

We continued the party celebration with a Notre Dame tailgate for my mom's birthday for the Michigan game and she sat next her brother and nephew, Matt and my Dad!  We took Addie out tailgating with us and she had fun playing with her cousins, Amelia, Tyler and Dylan.  Here are some pics of the tailgate.  The day included food, playing football, watching movies on the tablet, taking a nap and just having fun!

Hearing and Speech test

I have to admit that as a parent, I am always anxious for results of any type of testing on Addison.  Her school was having speech and hearing tests performed for the kids that signed up.  There have been a few times where you think Addison's speech is normal for her age, or is it?  For her hearing, when she is playing and I call her name and she ignores me sometimes, is this normal for kids?

Well we received the results and she passed on her speech.  her T sounds like K sometimes but that is suppose to stabilize later.  She is to be rechecked in 12 months to be sure.  So no therapy or re screening of speech/language skills in the near future.  I was so relieved as you always question that if I missed something as a parent and didn't see it and didn't get my child help.  I always want to provide the best for Addison and if I didn't, I would just never forgive myself.  My mom reassured me with saying if she does need therapy, we will get her the best therapist out there at whatever price.  I just love my mom, she makes me feel better in situations where I worry and in the end there is really nothing to worry about.

For her hearing, she is just getting over an ear infection so her results were for a re-screen in 4 weeks.  Hearing screening results were within normal limits.  Tympanometry was not within normal limits for both ears.  So they recommend that in four weeks to be sure the condition is resolved.  I reached out to a friend who is a hearing doc (such technical terminology for me) and she said not to worry just yet as an ear infection can cause a result to be off.  Just to contact my doctor in a few weeks to have it rechecked and go from there.  She is hearing fine, we just need to worry about hearing loss.

Golden Guppy lessons

So we took Addie to a swim assessment at Notre Dame in August and she was classified as a golden guppy.  She was able to blow bubbles and go under water, but not float by herself.  She would need to go to a parent/child class.  Jeremy got us set up for class lessons for every Sunday in September.  We love it as the class is small and even though there are 6 kids in the class, there are 4 instructors so it is hands on training.

Addie has been learning to back float (gotta keep those hips up)!
using a flotation device
glides on her back
glides on her side and switch to her stomach
jumping in the water (the timber game)
blowing bubbles and head in the water
kick while floating
using her arms (out of the water... not doggie paddle).. big ice cream scoops!  She is trying at this but really needs to get those arms out!

She likes going to swimming lessons and even though this session just ended and new one starts late October, we will be going again.

Gymnastics

Addie has been in Gymnastics since the end of August.  I signed her up for another class.  She was asking all summer with the Olympics being on so off we go to gymnastics class.   Any Michiana goers, I highly recommend Michiana Gymnastics.  I was a bit nervous when  I signed Addie up because the last class we took was  a parent/child class and now that she is 3, she moved up to just kids in the class.  I had several talks with her about Coach Andy and she had to listen to him, but I would be right there.  The first class, parents were able to be visible and watch.  She did great!  She listened, followed Coach Andy and was great with the other kids.  I will say, there is a difference in boys and girls.  The girls in the class are really friendly and listen, while the boys like to wrestle and cut in line.  Coach Andy corrects them, but sometimes they get away with it.  Addie's strong suit in gymnastics is the balance beam, my little girl can rock that!  she has zero fear and just right across it.  I took a video of her and she just cruises right along!  She loves to do exercises at home and constantly she tells me that she is doing her exercises (sometimes just to get out of chores).

October 4th- We invited our next door neighbor, Papaw, to join us for gymnastics today.  He doesn't work on Thursday afternoons and he was up for the ride.  He is an inspiration because he is legally blind and he doesn't let it stop him.  He took his binoculars and watched Addie go through her gymnastics practice.  I was really hoping Addie was going to perform.  She had slippery socks on so there were a few things that held her back a few times, but she never gives up and still tries.  In one of the routines, there is devise that the kids use that help them climb up the wall (like Superman) and they do a handstand, well Papaw noticed this immediately and said he could make it since he used to do carpentry back in the day.  It is just so impressive for a person who hasn't been able to drive in 10 years that has the passion and desire to keep on doing things and is so generous.  He was so excited to watch Addie and we are very lucky to have neighbors that are like a third set of grandparents for her.

use those muscles

This is the tool that Papaw noticed right away

She was supposed to do a front summer salt, but instead wanted to do the limbo!

I have to mention that my parents and Jeremy's parents work when Addie has her practices so they can't make it.  I know if it was on a Saturday/Sunday that they would be there in a heartbeat!

Grammie's Birthday

We celebrated Grammie's birthday at Portofino's and it was yummy!  This was Addie's first real nice (long) dinner and she did great!  She ordered shrimp, carrots, salad and even ate the stuffed mushroom appetizer!  Grammie had a great time with the family and we even celebrated an IRish win!

ND vs Navy game

Since the team played in Dublin, Ireland, the game was at 9:00 AM!  I decided to have a tailgate party for the neighbors to come over for some breakfast and then watch the game and after the game we would have mostacolli.  Here are some pics of the party!
